Azlan Sharom

Director of National Schools – Malaysia

Azlan went to school in Penang, before going to the UK for his A-levels, and later graduating from the University of Sheffield with a degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Following an initial career in engineering, his path developed along the lines of education, stakeholder management and organisational development.

Beginning at a leading multinational semiconductor manufacturing company, he has since held various senior management positions in organisations relating to education in schools and spent three years in the service of the Government of Malaysia, which provided first-hand exposure to matters of national policy and administration, while developing a broad appreciation of work cultures in both the private and public sectors. Azlan was the inaugural CEO of Yayasan AMIR, a foundation leading the development of Malaysia’s Trust School programme in partnership with the Ministry of Education. His interest in human resource and organisational development was further enhanced while employed at a global upstream oil and gas services provider.

Azlan’s interest of photography and travel are overdue some attention following the forced hiatus brought on by the global pandemic since 2020.
