ISP: OUR HEADS
Principal, Claremont School
Giles grew up in East Sussex in the UK, at Bede’s Senior School now a leading independent school, which his father founded in 1978. He was educated at Bede’s Prep School and Bradfield College, before studying Religious Studies and Theology at Edinburgh University.
Following University, Giles embarked on his first major venture to India, where he founded a guesthouse and restaurant. A year later, he took his first job in education as a Religious Studies/History teacher and a Housemaster at Bede’s. He then moved into the state sector becoming an Assistant Principal at Frome Community College in Somerset.
In 2007, the opportunity to set up an international boarding school in India drew him back to his ‘second home’, where he was part of a small team founding the International School Aamby. Three years later, Giles was presented with the opportunity to follow in his father’s footsteps and establish a new independent school, back in East Sussex. This school opened in September 2011 as Claremont Senior School. Opening the doors to this new school and watching it grow over the first five years, Giles believes is the proudest achievement of his career to date.
Away from work, Giles has four children and is Captain of his local cricket club as well as a musician and classical singer. As a singer he has performed at leading venues and festivals throughout Britain, having been a member of the Scottish Chamber Choir, Bath’s Paragon Singers and Chantry Singers and more recently The Mayfield Consort.
