Gillian Greaves
Head of School, The British School of Almería
Gillian was born and grew up in the city of Liverpool, UK. She specialised in Modern Foreign Languages at Manchester Metropolitan University before successfully completing her PGCE at Edge Hill University. She then went on to obtain a Master’s Degree in Child Psychology, where she focused on the linguistic, social and emotional development of bilingual children. Gillian spent several years teaching in schools across the UK before finally deciding to move to Spain in 2001. She joined The British School of Almería in 2007, shortly after the school opened and has always been keen to play a central role in the school’s development. Gillian is passionate about ensuring that her students have the opportunity to access a diverse range of experiences, which allow them to identify their own personal strengths and to recognise the importance of their own role not only in a school environment, but also in society as a whole. She firmly believes that the confidence and immense satisfaction gained from such experiences contribute greatly to a pupil’s ability to achieve even beyond their own expectations.
In her free time, Gillian likes to keep active and particularly enjoys running, cycling and dancing. She is also a keen football fan, although she finds that watching her own team is not always an ideal way to unwind! Her more relaxing pastimes include golf, crazy golf with her daughter and slowly learning to play the classical guitar.
