Principal, Nibras International School
Jay spent his formative years in the Philippines, before migrating to the United States of America. For 25 years, he was an educator, a district specialist, and a school principal for three different schools in one of the largest school systems in the country. During the last eight years, he was an International School Director in Qingdao, China. Jay earned his Doctor of Education degree from The University of Sarasota in Florida, his National Principal Certification from Fordham University in New York, and a Diploma in International School Governance and Sustainability from the European Council of International Schools in London, UK.
Jay is passionate about developing both teacher and school leaders. He led his school communities in exploring academic rigor through effective teaching practices that yield both amazing and exemplary results. While in the USA, he regularly presented in both Expeditionary Learning and Project-based Learning National Conferences, often sharing his schools’ successful transformation experiences. While in China, Jay organised a national conference of international educators to address the needs of English Language Learners, in partnership with the Association of China and Mongolia International Schools (ACAMIS). He is a trained school accreditor for the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and has joined several accrediting teams in the Asia-Pacific region.
Jay enjoys spending time with his lovely wife and their three adult children. He also enjoys spoiling his only grandchild – Alistair. To maintain a healthy work-life balance, Jay loves to explore new and remote places through hiking, swimming, and diving.
