John Kelly

Head of School – Instituto Thomas Jefferson Campus Santa Mónica

John grew up in Manchester in the United Kingdom, before taking his first job in Shanghai at the age of twenty-two.  John holds a BA in History, a PGCE from Durham University (UK), and a MA in Educational Management and Leadership from Nottingham University (UK). John is a life-long learner and would love to study an MBA in the near future.  

After leaving China, John’s travels took him to Mexico and Colombia and in 2018, back again to Mexico City, but this time as the Head of School at Instituto Thomas Jefferson, Santa Mónica Campus.  John’s passion for learning, travel, adventure, and his continual love of Latin American culture, was inspired by his experiences of travel in the region, marriage to his Mexican wife and the writing of authors such as Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Pablo Neruda and Jorge Luis Borges. 

John is passionate about the impact that technology is having on education and reads widely around technological futurists and dreams about harnessing the power of the 4th Industrial Revolution to improve education for all children in the world. He has been inspired by speakers such as Tony Robbins, Peter Diamandis, Jim Rohn and Ray Kurzweil

When John is not working, he spends time with his wife and his six-year old son and they love to watch Pumas football team. He likes to cook and enjoy the many different and diverse pastimes Mexico City has to offer.
