Jonathan Harris

Head of School, Rowntree Montessori Schools

Jonathan was born and raised in Southern Ontario, and with the exception of a year studying abroad in the UK and a teaching stint in Hong Kong, his educational and academic experiences have all been within Canada. He has always enjoyed travel, and he has done so extensively, on his own as a young man, and over the last 20 or so years he has visited Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Latin America with his wife and children, and also with his students. Jonathan earned a B.A. in History from the University of Toronto and a Master’s in History from Queen’s University in KIngston, Ontario.

He also holds a Bachelor of Education from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education. Now in his fifth year as Director of Education at Rowntree, he previously held senior leadership positions at two other independent schools in Toronto. Jonathan loves nothing more than seeing his students engaged in their learning, and he enjoys making and sharing short videos that document the ongoing school journey of the Rowntree students and teachers.

Besides travelling and raising his family with his beautiful wife, Sari (also a lifelong educator, but of high school Chemistry and Biology), he loves gardening, hiking, fishing, playing and watching baseball, and trying to play the guitar. Always curious about new things, be it educational technology, and most recently trying his hand at chess, Jonathan is a lifelong learner and teacher and his attempts at the latter are certainly providing him with real-life lessons in applying a Growth Mindset.
