Mick Gernon

Regional Managing Director – Middle East

Mick is a highly innovative, experienced and successful CEO, Executive Principal, and School Improvement expert having led a number of new, turnaround, and groups of schools in the UK and Dubai, covering UK, IB, US, and international curricula. He has a rare combination of outstanding educational, financial, commercial, and leadership experience across public and private sectors. Starting his career as a music teacher in the UK, he gained his first headship in 1999 – the youngest secondary headteacher in the UK at the time – subsequently working with KMPG’s Government Advisory Team, and then establishing the first, and highly innovative, Royal Society of Arts Academy. He was also a member of the Royal Society Vision group who defined the future of Maths and Science Education in the UK, before embarking on his international career in the UAE. Following several CEO/Principal posts, he became the Chief Education Innovation Officer for one of the largest school groups in the UAE in 2018.

Mick is passionate about educational innovation and transforming learning in ensuring that young people are educated for a world of the future, and not of the past – one of the key reasons that he joined ISP. He has presented extensively at conferences, and through publications, about future-focused education and system-wide transformation of schools.

Mick has three children all of whom have grown up in the UK and have successful careers – a veterinary surgeon, professional orchestral conductor, and environmental geo-scientist make for an interesting mix. Still a passionate musician (but mediocre horn player these days), he also finds time for golf, cricket, and enjoying good food and wine his partner Jyoti.
